Workshops
We will be offering hands on in hive beginning beekeeper workshops in April and May. The workshops will assume that you have attended a bee school, class, or at least read a book or two. Classes will be informal and limited to 10 people per session. We will cover basic equipment needs, apiary location, feeding, pest/disease, the beekeepers year in WNC, and how to approach and open the hive. You will see the inner elements of a working hive including: honey, pollen, various stages of brood, worker bees, drones, and likely a queen. Afterwards we will follow up with a question and answer session.
We recommend comfortable long sleeve shirt and long pants. A protective veil and gloves can be provided. These items will also be available for purchase or you are welcome to bring your own.
Half-day beginners workshops will be held primarily on Sunday afternoons here at our home apiary in April and May. Cost will be $30 per person, or $55 per couple or $40 for parent and minor child. Payment via good check or cash is due in full to reserve your space. A signed waiver will be required.
Call to reserve your spot and please check back for additional workshops and dates. We are also happy to hear your requests for future workshop topics. Possibilities may include feeding techniques and timing, making splits/nucleus colonies, finding and marking queens.....
I also offer private consultations and classes at your location or mine when time permits. Call or email for details and pricing.

area bee clubs
Your local bee clubs are a great source of beekeeping information. Even if the topic of the meeting is not of interest to you being in a room full of beekeepers will help keep you up on current seasonal activities with the bees and offer you an opportunity to get answers to your burning questions (sometimes more answers than you want as you know that 10 beekeepers will have at least a dozen opinions between them!)
